Bressingham Hall & High Barn Wedding - Amy & Guy's special day
Bressingham Hall & High Barn is actually a wedding photographers dream... with the truly wonderful gardens and the light and airy beautifully restored barn which, when coupled with the fun fair next door, makes for a such a unique and very special wedding venue.
Amy and Guy's wedding earlier this year at Bressingham Barn was everything they hoped it would be....elegant and stylish yet fun and unpretentious. I know just how much they enjoyed their big day and I absolutely loved telling their wedding day story.
Amy & Guy's wedding was published recently in the bridal magazine 'A Suffolk Ceremony' and so I thought I'd blog their lovely wedding using the insight Amy provided to the Archant wedding team for the featured magazine article.
So Amy tell us about....
Guy proposed when we was on holiday in Egypt on 27 June 2015. The proposal took place on the balcony at sunset, it was all very perfect.
Your dress. Did it take long to find? Was it exactly as you’ve always imagined? How many dresses did you try on?
I always thought I knew what kind of dress I wanted however, when visiting Boutique of Dreams in Diss I didn’t have a clue what kind of dress I wanted but I knew I didn’t want a “big princess” kind of dress. When I was younger I imagined myself in a strapless dress however this did not suit my figure. I visited two dress shops including Boutique of Dreams and that is where I ended up getting my dress from. In total between the two shops I reckon I tried on around 20-30 dresses.
Why did you choose your venue? Did you have a specific place in mind from an early stage?
We always knew we wanted to get married close to Diss. We had never heard of Bressingham Hall & High Barn even though its 5 minutes up the road from our house until Amy’s friend mentioned it to her at work. Bressingham Hall & High Barn is located next to the Steam Train Museum, Guy loves trains so this was definitely a selling point for him. When visiting the venue for the first time we just fell in love with it. The barn is very light, open and Beautiful. We also ended up hiring out the Gallopers located at the Steam Museum for our guests to use in the evening.
Did you have a theme or particular colour scheme? Why did you choose this?
We didn’t have a particular theme however the colour scheme was red/navy.
What did the bridesmaids wear?
My Maid of Honour Anna wore a Navy dress from Debenhams. Maisie and Flo also wore a navy dress from Monsoon.
And the groom/groomsmen?
The Groom/groomsmen wore Navy suits with a silver/white waist coat from Essential Suit Hire located in Wortham outside Diss.
What flowers did you choose?
The flowers were a mixture of Red roses, non scented Lilies and gypsophila.
And your cake?
We always knew we wanted a plain cake with not a huge amount of detail. It was a 3 tier cake, Fruit, chocolate and sponge cake covered with icing and hessian around the edge. Small cuts of gypsophila were also placed around each tier.
Tell us about the ceremony? How did you feel walking down the aisle, were there any funny or touching moments. Did you have any personal readings etc?
The Ceremony/wedding day was very relaxed. I wasn’t nervous or emotional walking down the aisle I just enjoyed the moment with my dad. Tell us about arriving at the reception, the photos, the wedding breakfast plus décor, any entertainment, the speeches… We all got ready at Bressinghall in the house onsite. The house has many bedrooms so the Bridal and groom party got ready in different “wings” to avoid each other. The morning getting ready with my mum, mother in law and bridesmaids was very relaxing. Everyone who joined us to celebrate our wedding said how relaxed it was and how smoothly the day went. We had speeches by the Father of the Bride which was read out by Amy’s auntie Josie Coombes as Maurice cannot talk, the groom, best man (Liam Erith) and Guy’s brother (Karl Ready). All speeches were excellent, not too long but long enough with a good laugh! As entertainment we had a DJ and Photo booth by connection entertainment. We also hired out the gallopers in the steam museum for all guests to use in the evening for a few hours. Mark Ewels photos were what we dreamed of. The photos were taken in the gardens at Bressinghm Hall. This allowed us to have some time together away from the guests just to have a breathe!
Did you have any evening entertainment?
As entertainment we had a DJ and Photo booth by connection entertainment. We also hired out the gallopers in the steam museum for all guests to use in the evening for a few hours.
What was your first dance?
Our First Dance was “The book of Love” by Gavin James
Where was your honeymoon? Did you go immediately after the wedding or leave it a few days?
We went on honeymoon to Kos Greece for 10 nights on the Wednesday after the wedding. This was perfect for us as it allowed a few days at home to enjoy being a newly married couple before jetting off.
Top tip(s) for other brides?
Do not stress over the small things!! I did and it all worked out perfect on the day.
